DECA ORGANIZATION--DECA is the student organization for Marketing Education. DECA used to stand for Distributive Education Clubs of America, but in the late eighties, the class was changed to Marketing Education. Because so many business people are familiar with DECA, the decision was made not to change the name of the organization. All students enrolled in a Marketing class may be a DECA member. Throughout the year, DECA members participate in individual and or team competency-based events. Region winners qualify for state competitions. National competitions are held in a major U.S. city each year.
Dallas County High Students, Tanika
Brown, Tiffany Goodwin, and Audrianna Marzette were recent winners in the
DECA Annual Regional Competition. The students participated in the first
round of the competition which consisted of a 100 question online test on
subjects such as Apparel and Merchandising, Business Marketing Services and
Retailing Merchandising. The students will go on to compete in the state
competition to be held in Tuscaloosa in March. At the state competition,
the students will participate in role-play activities and other competitive
events. Ms. D. Moore is the DECA Advisor and Business Marketing Instructor
at Dallas County High School.
